Valorant in the “GPU” limit?
The game Valorant runs with the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti in 2160p more or less just below the GPU limit, which you will see right away in the latency values as well as the GPU load in the video. Even the Radeon RX 6700 XT does not really run into the GPU limit. Please keep in mind that both NVIDIA Reflex and Radeon Anti-Lag only have an impact on latency when the GPU is >95% utilized. So the theory…
Benchmark Run
Settings
As usual, I didn’t change anything in the settings. Both graphics cards were tested in three resolutions with Reflex and Anti-Lag enabled and disabled.
Average FPS and latencies
Boy, you could play this game on a UHD monitor with 500 Hz (which doesn’t exist “yet”). Awesome, isn’t it? At this point, we can at least say that both cards are on par, although the RTX 3070 Ti – on paper – has significantly more power than the RX 6700 XT. You can easily see that both Reflex and Anti-Lag (enabled) interfere with the FPS. In particular, the 1% low with the RTX 3070 Ti drops in a bit more. But you don’t notice that because my UHD monitor can only display 144 FPS/Hz anyway. The question now is, does this affect the latencies?
I wouldn’t have expected that, because Reflex actually brings something. Anti-Lag, on the other hand, does not. In other words, although the two cards are on about the same level, the end user has a small advantage in UHD with Reflex on. From my point of view, this is partly because the RX 6700 XT does not run fully into the GPU limit and partly because Anti-Lag acts from the outside via the driver. Reflex comes – like an in-game frame limiter (IGFL) – from the game itself: quasi from the inside. I had already mentioned this several times. This is exactly the point that AMD should still work on.
FSR 3 and AMD’s version of Frame Generation, could otherwise no longer keep up with NVIDIA at that point (latencies). Radeon Boots + Anti-Lag cannot be the solution, because that brings more disadvantages than advantages. I had already presented this in an article as well. You can find the details on the usual slides (see below), otherwise we’ll continue with 1440p.
