MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio in review – thick jaws, cool appearance

Summary

With the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, MSI has created a 1.6 kilogram pixel bomber that does almost everything the noble gamer or performance-hungry earner wants. Because unfortunately all the fun is not really cheap. Only that MSI can least do it, because Nvidia has already cleared a lot with the bundle of GPU and memory. Despite the high retail price, the margins for manufacturers are not increasing.

The look fits, the performance also. Seen in this light, this 2.5 slot design is the quieter and cooler alternative to Nvidia's Founders Edition. The assembly of the board is absolutely fine and the same Smart Power Stages are used as with the Nvidia card. You work with a total of 14 voltage transformer circuits, which is more than the reference. Nevertheless, it is effectively 8 phases for the GPU and three for memory, which is absolutely sufficient.

I quickly summarize what I wrote in detail on the last pages, because the reader always needs a little reminder. And for the typical first-last-page readers, I would even have the hidden hint that it is well worth reading the rest in between. It's more interesting than you might think 😉

Per Cons
Very good cooling performance
Very quiet
Good board layout
Ordinary components
Good workmanship
High Power Target ex works
High power consumption in the idle
Memory not optimally cooled
High price

Conclusion

I don't want to give a purchase recommendation because of the currently high prices, that would be almost cynical today. But the manufacturer can't sell anything for it and the goods can't sell below value. But it's an excellent piece of hardware that should be rewarded. Because it's much louder and hotter. And that's exactly what MSI skilfully avoided with this card and earned a small award.
