MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio in review – thick jaws, cool appearance

The fan stop works, the fans only start at 63°C GPU temperature. The hysteresis is also cleanly dissolved and the one-time switching-on pulse of just over 1000 rpm is also nothing to frighten you. After that, the fans continue to run cleanly, so that must be the case. With just over 1500 rpm in a closed housing, the card remains pleasingly quiet even under continuous load.

If the blower is manually rotated to 100% at the maximum OC, the temperatures drop to approx. remarkable 52°C. However, this is more than just slightly audible, because it is simply loud. But nobody does that.

Let's look at the measured values again in direct comparison to the Founders Edition as a tabular listing:

MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
Gaming X Trio
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
Founders Edition
Fan speeds Open Benchtable Maximum 1420 rpm (Gaming, Peak) 2136 rpm (Gaming, Peak)
Fan speeds Open Benchtable Average 1406 rpm (warmed up) 2122 rpm (warmed up)
Fan Speeds Closed Case Maximum 1563 rpm (Gaming, Peak) 2281 rpm (Gaming, Peak)
Fan Speeds Closed Case Average 1530 rpm (warmed up) 2274 (warmed up)
Noise Emission (Air) Average 34.9 dB(A), Closed Case (Peak) 41.9 dB(A), Closed Case
Noise Emission (Air) Idle Fan-Stop 31.8 dB(A)
Sound characteristic / hearing impression rushing, restrained, no hum rather noisy, hardly lower-frequency shares
Coil-feathers/electric noises low, only for very high FPS numbers and for load changes low, only for very high FPS numbers and for load changes

Sound Spectrum

The measured 34.9 dB(A) is based on the measured 1530 rpm in the closed housing. We have applied the same gaming load to the open body in the measuring room, but we have fixed the fans to 1530 rpm in order to be able to adjust this value exactly. The result is impressive, because the 321 watts of waste heat want to be disposed of quietly and professionally.

This happens mainly in a pleasant soundscape, because you hear no or only very low engine and bearing noise. Most of it comes from the turbulence and is defined by a rather pleasant, not very intrusive noise. The Founders Edition was much louder with less waste heat.
