Color-Performance and Brightness Comparison
Below you can see the color performance of the KTC G42P5 (@Default Settings) compared to the other monitors that have already been in my test.
Brightness is always a controversial topic with an OLED. From my point of view, this is completely overrated. OLED does not need 2,000 nits. Nobody can stand it without sunglasses anyway! I measured 444 nits in SDR mode with a 25% window. If the window becomes larger, the ABL appears, which can be quite annoying in desktop mode. This should not be noticeable when gaming. Unless long-lasting large-scale white image scenes occur. Presumably, the ABL can even be switched off in the firmware by means of a universal remote control, etc. (Attention: Burn-in risk) The 2.4 nits minimum brightness is impressive. (no measurement error!) And that brings us to the topic: If you sit in a sunlit room and watch TV or play games on an OLED panel, you will sometimes not have heard of shading. Your own fault.

Since the KTC does not come out of the box curled and pre-calibrated, it will not get a top ranking. This is not a big deal, though, because we know that the monitor has a good sRGB mode and can be “hardware calibrated” quite easily. The HDR and gaming maniacs won’t mind that anyway. If you want to work with it in sRGB or P3 color space, you will surely have a colorimeter at home and do exactly what I will do now. Next page…
