Conclusion
Personally, I think an eGPU makes sense if you want more performance but prefer to stay mobile with your own laptop. What you can definitely say, however, is that you can achieve consistent performance depending on what you are playing. Another advantage over the laptop is that you can also replace this external graphics card and give it an upgrade. So you don’t have to worry that nothing will run properly.
But the whole thing is not without its price, because it is a steep price to pay. The case costs around 350 euros and then you also need a graphics card to make sense of course. In our case, the card would cost 359 euros at RRP. So you’d have to save up quite a bit of money to afford it. Unfortunately, you are also somewhat limited by the Thunderbolt 3 version and generally don’t get the full performance of the card. If you look at the price-performance ratio, then it’s difficult to judge. I would basically say that if you like gaming or perhaps use more intensive applications, it makes sense to buy an eGPU. The price is also somewhat offset by the additional features of the eGPU. Especially as a notebook with powerful graphics costs considerably more.
