If you take a closer look at the handheld console market, there really isn’t much choice. At least among the better-known companies. There is the Nintendo Switch or the well-known Steam Deck, which many fans also celebrate. However, Asus is also in the race and has its Asus Rog Ally, for example, but this probably has some problems in terms of battery life, for example. The company is now presenting its upgraded version. The Asus Rog Ally X, as The Verge reports.

The company has unveiled its upgraded version of the first generation before unveiling its Asus Rog Ally 2. But you shouldn’t expect too much. The components remain relatively the same. An AMD Ryzen Extreme Z1 APU with 4 nm process, 8-core / 16-threads, 24 MB total cache and up to 5.10 GHz boost is still implemented. The display is also unlikely to change. A 7-inch screen in 16:9 format with Full HD is once again expected.
But what are the new changes? We didn’t actually go into detail, but there have already been some statements. For example, the RAM, which normally only supports 16 GB 6400MT/s dual channel, will be accelerated. The memory slot will also be enlarged. It will have an M.2 2280 SSD slot, which can accommodate longer SSDs than the current M.2 2230 slot allows. Customers will therefore be able to find upgrades more easily. Accordingly, we can also expect a significant increase in battery life. But not 30 or 40 % more, it should be a considerable amount.
“We’re not looking at 30 to 40 percent more capacity. We’re looking at way more than that.”
Asus did not comment on a release date or a possible price range. The first generation has a price of around 600 euros.
