Performance across all games
We can see that the difference in the games is just big enough to place it outside of the measurement tolerances, but the really big sensation is of course still missing in the end with the accumulation of all single games, even if some games scale very well. Unfortunately, others do less of that. However, if you set a limit below 125 watts for the Ryzen 9 7950X, the performance also suffers more. If you have to and want to do that, you really bought the wrong CPU and one or two sizes smaller would have been enough.
Because if you compare it in percentage points, you gain a whole 1.3 percentage points with the optimized curve and if you leave out the 125 watt limit, it’s 2.2 percent. So none of this sounds that intoxicating. However, the CPUs with a die can easily be capped at 85 watts, and then it naturally becomes much more interesting for gaming.
The min FPS, i.e. the P1 then looks very similar and the FPS scale almost linearly, even in the minimum.
Averaged power consumption in all games
While the variant with Curve and 125 watt limit can save 2.6 watts, the faster version with Curve even adds a bit. it’s suddenly 2.3 watts more than the default setting, but at least you gain some performance
This is also reflected in the efficiency, where the gain of the Curved variant including the increased power consumption has about the same efficiency as the standard setting. The option with the limit has a clear advantage here.
We’ll see later where some jubilant YouTubers get their sensational profits from. The Ryzen 9 7950X has two faces, and it is not a gaming CPU in the first place, but a brute workhorse. That’s what we’re looking at next.
