Color performance with correct white point and calibration
Before I start calibrating, let’s unlock the wide gamut of the LG panel. And what comes out of it? As is typical for LG, the MEG381CQR+ is also an sRGB or P3 monitor. The color space coverage is too low for AdobeRGB (in my opinion). The whole then corresponds to approx. 70 % Rec. 2020 Coverage. Gaming, watching movies as well as working in P3 as well as sRGB color space – the MSI MEG381CQR+ delivers – and without having to calibrate the monitor!
The MEG381CQR+ can reproduce the 93% DCI-P3 color space coverage advertised by MSI. What do you need to set for a correct D65?
White point D65
If you want it lighter or darker, go for it. For me, the set brightness value corresponds to 200 nits. Although the brightness display in the OSD is given in nits, it is unfortunately far from reality. A 0 to 100 display would not be a line solution here, but it would be less misleading. After calibration, the whole thing looks like this according to DisplayCal…
Gray Scale (calibrated @ D65/Gamma 2.2/200 Nits)
No more questions, or are there? Yes, the contrast suffers a bit. But that is typical for IPS. You can see the rest for yourselves:
Measurement Report 3.8.9.3 – MEG381CQR + @ 3840×1600 Gray Scale @ Calibrated D65 Gamma 2.2

You don’t get much more out of the LG panel. DisplayCal did not have to correct much since only the white point was off track. The deviations that you still have now, I also find with other LG based monitors.
Uniformity

Again, nothing is really out of the ordinary. Neither particularly good nor bad. Yes, the protocol shows that there are deviations in the perceptible range. But, when you sit in front of the display, you have to be able to search for it and also find it. Believe me, the monitor has a unified display. You can also see the typical IPS glowing. I mention this only for completeness. This varies among the panels within a series, so one has it more – the other has it less. I have not been bothered by this so far.
So, now remains the HDR and other…
