With the new K70 PRO Mini Wireless, Corsair launches the first wireless mechanical keyboard in the company’s history. And Corsair wouldn’t be Corsair, if they didn’t take the opportunity to draw from the full! 60% layout, PBT keycaps, replaceable switches, a polling rate of 8000Hz and many other refinements are on board. Read what the battle dwarf can do in the test.
After a long delay, our review of the K70 PRO Mini is finally live. An unforeseen problem with my move led to massive delays and also to me having to postpone my next seating test for a few more weeks. Normally I keep private things out of my articles, but because I haven’t been active for a long time now, I wanted to make a little statement and announce that in the foreseeable future you can expect more tests from me again. But now back to the star of today’s show!
Mechanical keyboards without cables were absolutely unimaginable some time ago. the first models only came onto the market about 5 years ago, and they never really caught on. Cheap models attracted attention with poor input latency or short battery runtimes, and because it was a niche product, the big manufacturers never really made an effort. When the compact 60% keyboards sprouted like weeds everywhere a little later, the desire for wireless models obviously grew as well. Corsair is now also preparing to fulfill this consumer wish and launches the K70 PRO MINI Wireless, the first wireless mechanical keyboard.
As a compact version of the recently tested and very good K70 RGB Pro, the wireless keyboard naturally has a certain reputation to live up to, and at a price of a hefty 200€, it would be quite advisable to live up to this reputation at least to some extent. Corsair therefore also stuffs the K70 PRO MINI to the brim with features and we want to find out whether the concept works out in the following.
Unboxing and Hands-On
The packaging remains true to the usual line. The black carton has the typical yellow accents and depicts the product and its key features.
Just like its big sister, the object of desire immediately smiles at us when we open the box.
Besides the usual paperwork, there are two small bags with accessories in the box.
Inside are the USB-C charging cable, tools to pull off the keycaps and switches, and a few keycaps to personalize the keyboard.
The optional keycaps are unfortunately only made in simple material quality and feel a bit cheap compared to the high-quality PBT double-shot keycaps.
The dimensions of the K70 PRO Mini live up to its name. The frame baseplate made of anodized aluminum protrudes only a few millimeters above the keys in all directions.
As with the big sister, the switches rest neatly on the baseplate.
The secondary functions are printed on the side of the rough PBT keycaps, which have a very high-quality look and feel. In the dark or with custom keycaps, you have to memorize which key has which function. For me personally, exactly this confusion with all the custom layouts is the argument, which probably always lets me stay true to the 100% standard layout.
In profile, the slim design looks very classy.
The reverse side in its entirety.
Nice detail: The SLIPSTREAM receiver can be neatly stored inside the keyboard itself when not in use, e.g. when the keyboard is controlled via Bluetooth.
On the other side is the power button and the USB-C charging port.
The MX Speed Silver switches and the double-shot keycaps in detail.
The bottom is equipped with rubber feet that reliably prevent slipping on smooth surfaces. On large mouse pads, however, a ribbed texture of the rubber feet would provide even more grip. The LED light strip, which seamlessly extends once around the entire case, also fits in elegantly.
In contrast to the big sister, the feet only offer one position, but the inclination still allows comfortable typing.
As usual with Cherry MX switches, all colors, including the white shown here, are reproduced faithfully.
Basically, the colors of the illumination are very strong and yet unexpectedly bright despite the battery operation.
