Field test
The practical test will be relatively short in this review. The gaming part in particular is relatively quick. Once again, the palm rest is missing, but unfortunately it is rarely included even in the expensive premium products. But everything in order.
Gaming
In my standard test, which includes one round of CS:GO against bots, there were no surprises.
The Kailh red is an incredibly well-done replica of the red Cherry MX and to anticipate the next page of the review: for me, it has now even surpassed the red Cherry. It is smoother and the often criticized spring noise is much quieter. Otherwise, the red Kailh offers practically identical features, and in a blind comparison (in this case, more likely a deaf comparison 😉 ), it would probably be difficult for many users to tell the switches apart. In short, there is little to complain about and the keyboard is perfectly suited for gaming with this button.
Office/Productivity
I had already voiced my displeasure in the last reviews of keyboards in the 60% layout regarding office and text typing in general. Here, the lack of arrow keys adds to the difficulty. For me personally, this is an absolute disaster, especially with regard to navigation in texts. Because the delete key has also fallen victim to the form factor, you always have to hit it perfectly with the cursor to delete a letter or make a correction. Alternatively, you can only access the many functions that are frequently used in productive use via the double assignment with the FN key. Those who prefer such a small keyboard for whatever reason will have to come to terms with this fact. It is no different on small notebooks.
Otherwise, you can of course type just as well with the built-in Kailh red switches as you can with any Cherry MX red keyboard. In my opinion, the linear keys offer a bit less feel in this respect and in rare cases also trigger a neighboring key if it is accidentally touched, which practically never happens with tactile switches (especially the clicky versions).
Interim summary
Overall, the keyboard makes a good impression, but is primarily aimed at gamers with the linear switch configuration. But as it is the case with every mechanical keyboard, the switch makes the music. And because the switches of hot-swappable keyboards can be changed in no time and thus completely change the keyboard’s character, I have prepared a small comparison test on the next page.
