AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
My expectations are unfortunately dampened, because although the RX 6700 XT’s 12 GB of memory is sufficient, the card’s pure raw performance – with ray tracing enabled – is very thin. At least the game developers have integrated FSR 2 in Hogwarts Legacy, which could now save the AMD GPU’s butt. Let’s see…
In order to certify the card at least approximately playable FPS, I then activated FSR Ultra Performance after all. Thus, the RX 6700 XT comes close to the RTX 3070 Ti with only DLSS performance. Weird FPS jumps with and without anti-lag between FSR quality and balanced can be seen here. What do the latencies say?
Hmm, at least anti-lag seems to work. However, you only get to the level of DLSS quality even with FSR Ultra Performance. It can’t be the FPS, because the RX 6700 XT with FSR Ultra Performance reaches 54 FPS and the RTX 3070 Ti with DLSS quality only a jerky 37 FPS. This once again shows that external intervention (via the driver) does not work as well as Reflex – which, as we know, is implemented in the game. AMD should take another look at that.
As an interim conclusion on the subject of the RTX 3070 Ti and the RX 6700 XT, I can only say: I’ll have to take another look at when the two cards are usable in both Hogwarts Legacy and A Plague Tale Requiem. Is it even possible to play 1440p with ray tracing on these cards without jerking? Follow up soon…
