Color performance with D65 and Full Calibration
Calibrating the sRGB mode would be completely pointless. But since we have a pretty good P3 color space coverage, we’ll lend a hand there. The user mode is also in dire need of it.
OSD Setting D65
With the settings, every owner of an EX3415R should get the white point corrected towards D65 – at least approximately.
Gray Scale, Saturation and ColorChecker (User Mode) @ full calibration to DCI-P3 (D65 @ Gamma 2.2) with Calman Ultimate
Somehow something doesn’t fit. D65 and gamma are correct, but color accuracy and saturation are unfortunately not. Why? So far, BenQ has not commented. I expected to have to live with deviations in terms of the 100 percent values here. This is only logical in the end, because with only 95 percent color space coverage, there is no other way. But, that I measure such deviations within the P3 color space, I have not encountered so far. I’ll keep at it, that’s for sure!
Uniformity
The panel itself has a solid uniformity. There are measurable weaknesses (in my sample) in the upper right area regarding 100 percent white. However, this is not really noticeable in the end. The typical IPS glowing or bleeding was subtle in my sample. However, this varies from panel to panel and therefore cannot be generalized. For me, it’s still perfectly fine in the form (as in my sample).
Image errors
The monitor works with both NVIDIA graphics cards and AMD cards – without any problems. G-Sync (compatible) and FreeSync Premium make it possible. I could not detect any defective pixels or flickers in my copy.
Sound reproduction
At this point, I have to take a real stand for BenQ. The built-in “sound system” can really offer something compared to the otherwise typical speakers. The volume is really okay and the sound is also impressive. We are far away from the typical tin can sound. The speakers also have a certain depth and level stability. In addition, you can relax and enjoy a movie via remote control without having to fumble around in the OSD directly on the display. With all the praise, you should not expect a sound that a very good 2.1 system can produce. The sound is really good and you have the possibility to use pre-sets (movie etc.). From my point of view, it rounds off the overall picture of the EX3415R quite well. I would like to see manufacturers take an example here. If you’re going to install speakers, then you should at least implement it like the EX3415R.
