Look and feel
The housing of the F4-424 is made entirely of black plastic with a slightly matt surface.
At first glance, this is made up of two parts and the otherwise plain exterior is interrupted on both sides by ventilation slots in the shape of the company logo.
The front provides access to the four numbered hot-swap bays, but otherwise only has a sticker with the model number and a few activity LEDs.
If you press on the upper part of the drawer, the lock releases and the respective drawer can be pulled out individually.
A look inside then reveals a metal cage and a PCB with the SATA power and data connections.
On the back, things finally get really exciting, as this is where all the available connections of this NAS are located. From top to bottom we have HDMI 2.1, USB 3.2 10Gbps once each as Type-A and Type-C as well as 2.5GbE LAN ports in duplicate.
The underside has thick rubber feet, which will hopefully absorb the vibrations of the hard drives well. Tests on the volume follow.
