Conclusion
The ICOS is a very well-done chair that can convince all along the line, both in terms of quality and features. However, since there are not only positive things to report, I will preface the conclusion with my petty but quite justified criticism.
From my point of view, the chair has a few small weaknesses that I noticed in comparison to other products. Firstly, the armrests, which have to do without a locking mechanism and always move backwards when the chair is pushed towards the table and touches it. What I think is even a bit more serious is the ratcheting of the inclination of the backrest. In my opinion, this should have either been more finely graduated or the angles should have been chosen differently, because the smallest setting is “too upright” for me and then at the next level you are almost sitting “comfortably reclined”. That is certainly a personal preference and at the end of the day also complaining on a high level, but the price is also on a high level and the product has to live up to that.
Overall, the ICOS is a chair that I would actually prefer to classify as an office chair with gaming leanings. Thanks to the synchro mechanism, seat length adjustment, adjustable headrest, and the supportive contour of the backrest, the chair is extremely flexible in adapting to individual seating habits. I see it as very close to the Recaro RAE, with components that even seem a bit higher quality in parts, but slightly different tuning of the seat comfort. However, the latter is to be understood as a subjective comparison, because everyone has different preferences in this regard and not everyone would prefer the Recaro! Since Quersus is a young (est. 2016) company whose name I had never heard before, however, it is definitely to be considered a mature performance that one’s own product is compared with the class leader with decades of experience.
Due to the currently running promotion (549€), the ICOS Edition One is definitely worth a look, although at the regular price (699€) I would personally then rather reach for the Recaro RAE (made in Germany for 599€).
The chair was provided by Quersus for this test without any preconditions. An influence or compensation did not take place.
