Whenever the term “gaming chair” appears in a review, some of our readers immediately start ringing alarm bells. However, the well-equipped Quersus ICOS One is explicitly marketed as an “office chair” and we want to take a look at whether it can actually do “better” than its gaming cousins in this review. Can it?
Admittedly, I have never heard of the manufacturer Quersus myself. But if you think of (attention, pun!) lateral thinking or queer, you are completely wrong. Quersus is a Polish office chair manufacturer that specializes in developing and marketing high-quality seating furniture. Since the website only mentions “developed in Europe”, I assume that the production of the final products takes place in the Far East, which is not reprehensible – after all, this is what the majority of all well-known companies do.
The ICOS Edition One represents the manufacturer’s flagship and was equipped with a very self-confident price tag (699€). For this price, it offers a high-quality finish and very decent features (synchronized mechanism, seat length adjustment, adjustable headrest, lumbar support, …), but it also has to face the comparison with reference products like the Recaro RAE. So as not to keep you in suspense any longer, we’ll unpack the kit together right away. First of all, I apologize for the somewhat overexposed photos – the sun has interfered a bit.
Unboxing
There is the thing:
So this is what it’s supposed to look like.
The dimensions of the box are a bit more discreet than the SecretLab Titan. According to the box, the ICOS is officially sold as an office chair!
Upon opening the package, an image of the product on a large sheet of cardboard immediately smiles at us.
The illustrated assembly instructions are on the back. All in all, it looks as if one Polish company might have copied from another Polish company.
However, the packaging material differs significantly from SecretLab.
There is really nothing more that can happen: There is even a layer of foam on top of the molded Styrofoam.
The last level of the stacked packaging contains the base and the smaller components:
After everything was freed from styrofoam, foam, foils etc.:
Nice, the model for our review is even personalized! By the way, personalizing the headrest with a lettering or a logo costs 29€ extra, which is quite okay considering the quality.
The embroidered logos are all neatly finished. Both the smaller in the seat:
As well as the larger one on the backrest. The letters are done in faux suede, which makes a nice contrast to the otherwise smooth faux leather surface.
The backrest is generally very ergonomically shaped and has a pleasant (fixed) lumbar support integrated.
In the ICOS, both the construction inside and the back cover of the backrest are made of synthetic and composite materials. This is expected to reduce weight and increase durability. As with the Recaro RAE, I don’t see any serious disadvantages here compared to the widely used tubular steel construction.
The casters come in a stylish spokeless design, are pleasantly (but not too) smooth-running, and the fairly soft rubber coating makes them pleasantly quiet on my laminate.
The base is traditionally cast from aluminum.
Not quite as solid as the Titan EVO, but still sturdy enough that even with my two and a half hundred pounds I have no qualms about taking a seat on this chair.
Important for assembly: The box with tools and screws!
The tool seems strangely familiar to me again..
The washers and locking rings also sit firmly mounted on the screw at Quersus, which saves time and nerves.
The gas spring is a class 4 model manufactured by KGS. We have also seen the same manufacturer at Recaro and SecretLab.
Very similar in shape, but made of aluminum instead of plastic – the armrest brackets are very reminiscent of the Recaro.
The massive rocker mechanism, including the synchro mechanism, is extremely robust. Here, too, the ICOS scores with a higher use of materials.
