Fan curve and operating noise
Now we come to what is automatically generated when the waste heat is dissipated: various fan noises. As always, the measurements in the measuring chamber with the second system are a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed cover. That’s why I later set the fans manually to the values I measured during gaming and torture in the closed case and leave the setup open. The 1200 rpm are barely audible. That’s very positive at first. With OC, it’s just under 1250 rpm, which is also barely audible.
But what does the measurement show for the Gainward GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Panther 3X 16 GB? I have only analyzed the 285 watt card here today. However, the frequency analysis shows very clearly how the sound carpet is divided. With a good 32 dB(A) in the gaming loop, everything is really quiet, even if we can see the fundamental tone below 250 Hz and, from approx. 4 KHz, the harmonics of the coil and capacitor buzzing again. You can see very clearly that the whole thing is only noticeable because the rest is quiet and not masked.
Coil noise: “Coil whining”
There is one point we still need to talk about and that is once again the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards perform an extremely jittery dance of joy, which you can also hear. Especially as the coils used are perfectly usable, but the rest of the card is “too quiet” to mask this. As always, you can find out more about this topic here:
