Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Now we come to what is automatically generated when the waste heat is dissipated: various fan noises. As always, the measurements in the measuring chamber with the second system are a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed cover. That’s why I later set the fans manually to the values I measured during gaming and torture in the closed case and leave the setup open. The 1400 rpm after switching on the fans are audible (1), then the curve flattens out and you end up with a good 1200 to 1220 rpm (2).
But what does the noise emission measurement reveal? I have analyzed both sections of the curve here. The frequency analysis clearly shows how the sound carpet is divided up. At 34 dB(A) in the gaming loop during start-up (1), this is still not an issue, even if we can easily see the harmonics of the coil and capacitor buzzing in the range from approx. 4 KHz.
When the curve flattens out (2), we end up alternating between 32.5 and 33.2 dB(A).
The fans are a little grumpy and tend to hum slightly at around 1000 rpm when turned down. However, as this is a speed range that is not normally used, this is bearable. The audio recording has been normalized, so don’t be alarmed. It is of course much, much quieter in reality.
Coil noise: “Coil whining”
We still have to talk about one point, and that is once again the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards perform an extremely jittery dance of joy, but you can’t hear it so clearly here. Especially as the coils used are usable but not top class and the eight phases have to work hard. As always, you can find out more about the topic here:
