Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super review – more memory, bigger chip, faster and also a little thirstier

The GeForce RTX 2060 got several scolds for the launch, mainly because of the rather meagre memory expansion of only 6 GB, which was actually not appropriate for the purchase price. Now everything is supposed to be super and you are aiming with an EIA of 419 euros incl. Vat. in the end, a very similar class of buyers. The question is still the question of how the street price will develop with the board partner models, because that was the big weakness after the launch at that time. Current GeForce RTX 2060 is now available from approx. 340 Euro street price.

Summary

In fairness, before we look at all of this in context, I would like to mention the technical implementation. The biggest advantage of the GeForce RTX 2060 Super over the "normal" RTX 2060 is the 8 GB extended memory.  This may seem rather trivial in Monet, but perhaps in the near future this is already a possible criterion for the possible long-term use of this not-quite-cheap card. Could be, because such a thing is always very speculative.

The resulting shaders naturally move the super map closer towards a GeForce RTX 2070. You can't really say anything more about the price comparison here, because according to Nvidia this card is already EOL, so it is or is already set. And yet the cheapest RTX 2070 currently costs almost 500 euros, while the cheapest RTX 2060 costs around 500 euros. 350 euros. With its 419 Euro Eia, the RTX 2060 Super almost hits the middle between the two street prices.

If one hopes that the GeForce RTX 2060 Super could eventually fall below the 400 Euro mark in the street price (which will probably take a little longer), then the RTX 2060 Super would be even slightly cheaper in relation to the RTX 2060 and 2070. However, if you take the prices as a basis after the launch of the first RTX series, the board partner models will initially be a bit more expensive than the EIA. Either way, the price of the GeForce RTX 2060 Super is in Nvidia's trend.

In addition, if you consider that the GeForce RTX 2060 will remain for the time being, since according to Nvidia it is not EOL, it could be given the same role as the GTX 1660 3GB at the time, only in significantly more expensive. Given the current gaming performance of the RTX 2060, the deal is certainly not even so bad if the new card could push the "old" down a bit in price. The cheapest GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is approx. 275 Euros and the more expensive models are already at RTX 2060 level. There will certainly be a lot of movement.

And I want to lose a word about DXR / RTX On, because in the end there will be more and more titles that use the various features. Not quite as excessive as with BF V (thank God), but mostly profitable for the interested user. And if the concentrated load then turns out to be a little smaller and more harmonious, as well as much is also optimized, then raytracing (but not only that) can also be attested positive moves in terms of the future viability of an investment. I don't see it quite as euphoric as Nvidia (they have to), but the initial scepticism about its use in the consumer market gives way to a healthy interest and a certain instinct for play.

Conclusion

In and of itself, if you leave the whole price discussion aside, such a GeForce RTX 2060 Super is without question the better RTX 2060. The fact that instead of the Ti abbreviation you have just chosen Super, which means nothing more than "about", is funnily reminiscent of AMD's so-called Uber fashion. This time the super really leads to a decent plus in performance. In terms of price, it can be discussed very well, but for a final conclusion one would have to include the cards, which are the trigger for Nvidia's portfolio update.

And that's where the somewhat hectic launch of Nvidia has a huge disadvantage in time, because you can't judge the potential competitors yet. And so this conclusion remains open in the end, because what should I write? Direct comparisons are prohibited (still) and so you will be able to read an assessment of this from me at the latest at the Navi-Launch. Anything else would not be fair or objective. And that is exactly what we all do not want.

The map has done well in terms of the plan and the idea behind it. With the not so trimmed TU106-410, it is also an implementation that does not incur any further costs, but could increase the yield enormously, because nowhere in the consumer sector is it still used to fully expand it. Even non-defective chips can be equipped with a hardware strap and brought among the astonished people. But whether this bill really pays off in the end is up to the buyers alone.
