Pascal-Roundup #2: Nvidias GeForce GTX 1060 in comparison

A special feature of this roundup, whose individual product pages can of course be regarded as individual tests, is the intentional focus on workmanship and technical equipment as well as the most important features such as power consumption,... With the GeForce GTX 1060 Superclocked (6GB), EVGA has a GeForce GTX 1060 in its portfolio that roughly relies on Nvidia's reference board, but which interprets the cooler in such a way that there are no overhangs like the Founders Edition. This creates a rec... With the GeForce GTX 1060 Phoenix GS, Gainward is more aimed at the more demanding user, but without getting lost in the extensive overclocking craze. As a kind of "luxury label" from Palit, one naturally also resorts to the company's own Ressourc... The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming is certainly not the low-cost model of the manufacturer, but rather rather targets the rather price-conscious gamer, who despite the rather moderate price does not want to do without certain extras. In the future, one will have to pay more attention to the designation or the specified memory in the 1060s - because with 1152 instead of 1280 shaders, the GP106-300 GPU offers exactly 10 percent less theoretical computing power than the normal GP106-400. Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060, like its two larger sisters, GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1080, is banking on the new Edge design - but this time in a slightly more cost-friendly version. Power consumption

First of all, we compare all graphics cards in the main areas of gaming loop, stress test and idle in direct comparison in a gallery, which contains all results in exactly this order as bar graphics.

Depending on the power target specified by the manufacturer, considerable differences can be measured. We deliberately do without the decimal places for the bar graphics, because they would be within the possible measurement tolerances.

We also found that some cards with a rather tight power target had a slightly lower power consumption in the stress test due to down clocking. However, in none of the cases did this really negatively affect gaming performance, it only represents the absolute worst case.

Volume/operating noise

For this comparison, we separate the bar graphics in the gallery into gaming loop and idle – even if it is actually a noise development, which is also very broadband and in terms of sound character for each map also very different individually may fail.

Therefore, it is important not only to compare the absolute bars, but also to look at the frequency spectra on the individual product pages of this roundup and to read the corresponding text.

Since many of the cards also use a semi-passive mode and the fans are stationary in the idle, they do not have to specify corresponding readings.

Even if we are in our special measuring room at a basic sound level around 22 dB(A) and below, measured values here would only represent the ambient noise.

Temperature behaviour

For this comparison, we divide the bar graphics in the gallery into gaming loop, stress test and the maximum reached temperatures of the voltage converter MOSFETs in the HotSpot. The more detailed history curves and comments can be found on the individual tests corresponding pages for each map in this article.

By the way, we randomly compared the temperatures reached on our bench table and the temperatures reached in the housing, which were no more than two to three Kelvin above the values in the open structure.

Since the dispersion of the values in the closed structure also depends extremely on the housing performance, only the values of the bench table are really reproducible and comparable.

Intermediate conclusion

You can see very clearly where which manufacturer sees its focus and where in return perhaps savings have been made. Of course, these three criteria alone are not enough to be able to assess a map objectively, but together with the details listed on the individual pages and the performance (previous page) that is quite similar at the end, the picture rounds off quite neatly.
