Optics and haptics
Finally unpacked, we should be able to take a first look at our new network backup gem. The sleek exterior is made entirely of brushed aluminum and is only interrupted by ventilation holes in the center.
The front then has another tightly meshed grid and is also home to the power button, 1x USB 3.0 Type-A and 1x USB Type-C. We also find an AUX port here, for whatever reason you might need it on a NAS. I’m guessing it’s because of the “recycling” of the ITX gaming case from the same manufacturer, the Jonsbo V11.
Enough grip on any surface and vibration damping is definitely provided with the gigantic rubber underside.
The skeleton of the N1 is held in place with only one large screw. If this is removed, the inner part can be pulled out backwards.
A dedicated PCB facilitates the connection of up to 5x 3.5″ hard drives and also makes hot-swap possible in theory. Power is supplied centrally on the bottom via 2x Molex and up to 5 SATA cables.
The build quality is very good and the case feels very high-end – sometimes due to its weight. I couldn’t detect any sharp edges or corners, so we’ll continue directly with the installation of the hardware.
