Bundle
To use the Wave DX, an appropriate XLR audio interface including cable and a compatible microphone holder or arm must be available. To ensure smooth use without annoying compatibility issues, Elgato also offers the Wave DX as a bundle with the matching Wave XLR audio interface, XLR cable, and the rugged Wave Arm in a variety of styles. At a price of 299,99€ (Mini Mount) or 329,99€ (Wave Mic Arm / Mic Arm LP) you get the all-round carefree package with which you can get started immediately.
XLR cable
A rather boring but certainly not unimportant part of the bundle is the high-quality, 3m long XLR cable. The solid cable is covered with a textile sheath. The plugs are made of metal. There is nothing to complain about the cable’s quality; it looks high-quality and reliably does its job.
Wave arm
The Wave Arm comes in plastic-free packaging.
When unpacking, you immediately notice the high weight and the clean workmanship.
Even the smaller components are real heavyweights.
The clamping mechanism alone weighs over half a kilo.
Clever: The XLR cable can be hidden in the arm, the covers are made of flexible rubber and are therefore particularly easy to install.
The Wave Arm surprised me in a positive way. Until now, I always had to deal with inexpensive models from Amazon or eBay, because the high price of the “better” products had put me off a bit. But the difference is immediately obvious in all respects: The Wave Arm is dimensions more robust and stable than all cheap boom arms that I have seen so far. All joints and mechanisms are supple and free of noise or instability.
Wave XLR
The Wave XLR audio interface is kept very simple and does not overwhelm even laymen with a multitude of buttons and knobs, as is the case with many small interfaces and mixers.
On the back is a capacitive button to mute the microphone and the three ports for the XLR microphone, headphones and USB-C connection to the PC.
The design is identical to the Stream Deck.Everything is controlled via just one large dial. By pressing the button we can choose which volume to control: microphone, headphone output and the “monitor” function, where you can hear yourself speak. A long press on the control turns the 48V “phantom power” for condenser microphones on or off.
The Wave XLR audio interface does its job and is easy to use. Thanks to its simple design and discreet lighting, the color of which can be configured as desired, it cuts a nice figure on the desk, but under the inconspicuous hood are all sorts of useful features, such as a clip guard, a low-cut filter, and headphone amplification for high-impedance headphones.
Somewhat confusing (and annoying if you don’t want to use the feature) I found the overwhelming amount of devices listed through the interface in the sound settings. I ended up disabling all the devices I didn’t need in the Windows settings.
Overall, the bundle offered is quite good. All devices are perfectly coordinated and an “it just works” almost slipped over my lips.
