iCUE Software
First of all, kudos to Corsair for responding to criticism. The setup has been reduced to a slim 3MB, but of course the installation data has to come from somewhere and is downloaded as temporary files during the installation process. And while we are at the praise: Also the error during the installation, which usually occurs again and again with me, is now no longer present. In the end I have to complain again, because the installation folder of the iCUE software is almost 2GB in size and almost half of it is made up of game effects. Effects for games, most of which I don’t even own and even if I did, I’d like to decide for myself if I want to install the effects at all. Because if I have already painstakingly set up all the blinkibunti LEDs, then please let it stay that way and not have a separate fair for each game. Would it be too much to ask not to install all the optional stuff, but only afterwards, if you really want to have it? But enough of that, let’s take a look at the settings options of the K70 MAX.
In the overview, we first get all iCUE-compatible devices displayed.
If we select the K70 MAX, we end up in the menu item “Lighting effects”, where the usual effects can be set.
In the key assignment menu, each regular key can be assigned individually. Macros, mouse functions, text modules – hardly any wish remains unfulfilled here.
In the options menu you can set which key combinations should be deactivated in “game mode” (Win-Lock) and which display colors e.g. FN combinations have.
The most exciting part is of course the keystroke configuration. This is where the magic of the MGX switches happens.
If we have created a second actuation point for a key, then we can assign it twice. In the example, a short press on the ‘W’ key will enter a lowercase w, while pressing the key down will also execute the ‘shift’ command. In shooter games with WASD control, this results in ‘walking’ when the key is pressed lightly, while ‘running’ when the key is held down. I didn’t have enough creativity for more unusual examples at this point.
Finally, options like polling rate and brightness can be set in the device settings, which we already know from other Corsair products.
