Cooling GPUs Reviews Watercooling

Corsair Hydro X XG7 RGB GPU water block against a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with 380 watts – a success or glow?

Test run and temperatures

I reconnect the graphics card directly to the chiller, increase the power target to the maximum 380 watts, the core clock by 200 MHz and the voltage to the adjustable maximum. Then I start Witcher 3 on maximum details at 3840 x 2160 pixels (Ultra HD). The control measurement showed approx. 378 to 379 watts over the measured 30 minutes for the graphics card alone, the water temperature was as always constant 20 °C and the room temperature was 22 °C. This means that we now have the best conditions for later comparisons with other products.

With a GPU temperature of 35 °C on average, I also register under the socket on the back of the board. 35 °C, which is very good and even sufficient for the top of the already tested coolers. Depending on the positioning, the memory modules are warm between 35 °C and 41 °C, which is good in the upper midfield. The voltage converters become a maximum of 49 °C warm, which is also very clearly in the green area and does not have to hide shamefully.

In a direct comparison of all the measured values of the previously tested coolers, Corsair's new water block makes a good figure, even if the absolute peak in the sum of all positions is not quite reached. Functionally, everything is in the green area and with the GPU diode the result is currently even absolute top.

Summary and conclusion

From a price point of view, the cooler is just fine with a total of just over 159 euros, because you also get a backplate and the assembly is reduced to a minimum effort. However, it is not cheap, on the contrary.  It would have been all so nice if the terminal had also been a bit torsion-zealous and if the backplate had been actively involved in the cooling.

Corsair has delivered a good product for entry, on which you can certainly build well. It's not perfect yet, but that's going to be time-consuming. At least the provider has promised to completely change the terminal again according to my instructions. This also shows, by the way, that we know how to deal with criticism very constructively, which is by no means self-evident. Of course, I will follow up accordingly.
