The solution
The solution is a small gadget called Screenbuddy.
It is a multi-part “link” which is intended to ensure a (permanent) perfect alignment of the monitors.
A two-part magnetic connector is attached to the top and bottom (or left and right if you want to align two monitors mounted on top of each other) of the two monitors you want to align. I was very excited and couldn’t really imagine how the alignment would actually work. For technical data and some demo photos, please refer to the manufacturer’s website.
The installation
I strictly followed the enclosed instructions during installation. As the monitors to be connected had to be placed next to each other on a flat surface, I initially assumed that the monitors would have to be perfectly aligned for the Screenbuddy to work at all, but then I couldn’t quite see the point. Anyway, first follow the instructions, remove the monitors from the mount and place them on the standard feet so that they are guaranteed to be at the same height next to each other.
Before gluing on the connectors, the surfaces must of course be free of dirt and grease. If, like me, you don’t have isopropanol available at your workplace: Glass cleaner usually works quite well too!
When attaching the connectors, the monitors must be in the same plane as each other, i.e. “in line” for “normal” flat screens:
With curved monitors (as here in the test) in such a way that the curve to be formed does not become a wave – if you can imagine anything under this description:
As the adhesive surfaces should ideally dry for 24 hours after application, I had only reinstalled the monitors on the dual arm the next working day. You can simply separate the magnetic connectors from each other.
And that’s when the light finally went on if it takes longer! After unlocking, the magnetic brackets can be moved continuously on the glued-on carrier plate.
And at this point at the latest, I was amazed at this simple yet ingenious gadget, because the monitors are connected, perfectly aligned and fixed in just a few simple steps after being mounted on the arm.
