Teardown
Let’s disassemble the X5 now, because I really wanted to know in more detail. What’s inside and how does the 309 Euro purchase price materialize? I’ve already written enough about the plastic used, so I don’t need to go into it again. The two-shell ABS injection-molded case is simply a complete disaster, both visually and haptically, sorry. To even get inside, you have to pull off the glued rubber strips of the display with some force.
With a lot of patience and caution, the front panel, PCB, upper and lower shells can then be neatly separated from each other. We can also see the stiffeners in the casting in the shells, whereby gap dimensions and accuracy are really not appropriate for the price. This just looks cheap on the inside as well, which is a real shame.
The front or control panel houses another circuit board for the entire control system and display. I’ll get to that in a moment, because you’ll quickly get an eye sore here as well.
The motherboard, on the other hand, makes a solid impression – except for the soldering of the RCA jacks. Here I had to do some work on one of the sockets myself, because when I took it apart, the condition changed from solid to rather wobbly.
