No sooner have we finally caught up with the review of one of the most popular complete water cooling systems than there’s already a successor. So I won’t beat about the bush for long, here we go with the test report for version 3! And yes, Arctic obviously doesn’t just want to kill the CPUs with it, but also the competition with the targeted launch price. But more on that at the end in tabular form as a price list, but first let’s see what’s new!
How good is cheap? Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 and 360 Review – This is the standard to beat
Packaging and scope of delivery
I decided to test two versions straight away, the 240 mm version without lighting and the 360 mm version with RGB. Incidentally, this time there is also a white color to choose from, but I stuck with the classic black.
The box is also black and white, with just a few small accents here and there. Otherwise, there is the classic design with a schematic representation of the contents on the front and further details on the back.
Instead of a cardboard tray inside, there are additional layers of cardboard to absorb shocks during transportation.
In addition to the brackets for installation, the accessories also include a tube of MX-6 thermal paste, various connection cables and, as a remarkable special feature, even a CPU contact frame for socket LGA1700. I have never seen that before.
Assembly and installation
With the AM4 socket I am using here, the installation is not so exciting and is very similar to that of the Liquid Freezer II. The existing backplate of the mainboard is reused and supplemented on the front with its own spacers and brackets.
The “naked” pump block is then fitted and screwed in place. You can then decide whether to use the cable with separate control for the radiator fan, VRM fan and pump or whether the all-in-one connection with just one plug will suffice. In the final step, the magnetic cover is then placed on top.
In later revisions, “offset mounting” was made possible with the Liquid Freezer II, and with version III it is now standard for AMD processors. So don’t be surprised if part of the heatspreader is not covered.
