Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme in Review – Lost in RGB | igorsLAB

RGB lettering on top? Has everyone. A nice RGB logo in the backplate? Yawn. Illuminated RGB fans? There are already. But what about real light effects on the rotor blades? Some people who are looking for the ultimate difference and would like to be paralyzed by the stroboscope effect will now sharpen their ears. At least that's what she must have thought of Gigabyte's marketing when planning the Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme. Pleasantly more bling for the people, spoke the marketing and so it was built...

Summary

The balance on the bling-bling balance is reassuring, the performance of the card, as well as the processing and of course also component selection for the proper board are also. Only the ears have to live with the compromise of the very special radiator structure, which is sometimes very noticeable acoustically. So eyes open, but ears to and through…

So the look fits, the performance also. Seen in this light, this card as an almost 3-slot design is also visually a good alternative to Nvidia's Founders Edition when it comes to the flashing LED warp factor. In addition, it is an electrically a good solution with a reasonable Power Target, which can hardly be significantly increased on request. Nevertheless, the clock rates within the framework of the chip and its possibilities are perfectly fine.

I quickly summarize what I wrote in detail on the last pages, because the reader always needs a little reminder. And for the typical first-last-page readers, I would even have the hidden hint that it is well worth reading the rest in between. It's more interesting than you might think 😉

Per Cons
Elaborate RGB lighting
Good components installed
Thoughtful board layout
Six variable video outputs
Very clean processing
Power Target barely uptoforable
Motor noise of the fans
Total audible under load
Cooling performance rather mediocre

Conclusion

I don't want to give an explicit purchase recommendation because of the currently high prices, that would be somehow cynical today as with the other cards. But the manufacturer can't sell anything for it and the goods can't sell below value. After all, Aorus is only a board partner who has to go shopping at Nvidia first.

But it is a neat graphics card without any real mistakes, but something pretentious, which, however, compensates easily for many with the LED. What fascinates besides the optics is the very flexible implementation with a total of 6 video outputs, which leaves nothing to be desired, whether you want to use 3x display port, 2x HDMI or whatever. Since this is a unique selling point, Chapeau. Then the price doesn't itch so much anymore.

As always, the rest is decided by price, brand affinity and/or design. And very subjectively with the buyer. As always, by the way, I'm out there.
