Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme in Review – Lost in RGB | igorsLAB

RGB lettering on top? Has everyone. A nice RGB logo in the backplate? Yawn. Illuminated RGB fans? There are already. But what about real light effects on the rotor blades? Some people who are looking for the ultimate difference and would like to be paralyzed by the stroboscope effect will now sharpen their ears. At least that's what she must have thought of Gigabyte's marketing when planning the Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme. Pleasantly more bling for the people, spoke the marketing and so it was built...

Overclocking

First of all, the good news: there is still a little bit in this card. But I have to push the bad news right away: it's at the expense of the socket. In the cold state, this card creates stable 2040 to 2070 MHz, as long as you let the fans turn up fully and use the maximum power target of 112%, as well as manually adjusting 110 MHz more clock for the GPU. With a normal fan profile, it is still between 1975 and 1995 MHz. That's not 100 MHz anymore, than the card already creates with factory OC and is actually not worth it. So you need the fans or a good water cooling.

Although it is due to the slightly increased Power Target, which is already slightly higher ex works, because we will see later that this map is approx. 15 watts more power than the VU. If you overclock up to the stability limit, then it is again a good 25 watts more. And it is precisely this last kick that is almost hardly worth it without better cooling for a card that is already well above the 1.8 GHz mark ex works. Everything else then somehow becomes questionable to the dance on the last groove.

The memory can be clocked a little higher, although For some reason I would be a bit careful with Micron RAM. As nice as the 1-click tool may be, you can still achieve the slightly better overclocking values with a slightly lower power consumption in the end.

We see that the difference to the GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition is between 2 and 3 percent, depending on the game. If you then continue to overclock, it is between 5 and 7 percent, which then come up again. This, in turn, is no longer necessarily decisive about any playability, but only for the gallery of vanities. It's also getting louder. But since it was always desired to put the OC results into the charts: gladly happen.
