Now, as always, the next step is the hardware. As I mentioned beforehand, my choice fell on the Colorful Z690 DDR4 Frozen V21. I got this board with some detours and stress to Germany, because the well-sorted retail trade gives nothing like that. I am known to be a fan of exotic hardware and there remains only the import. The Colorful Z690 Frozen is one of 4 versions that Colorful offers this board in white or black and with choice of DDR4 or DDR5 respectively. My version is the one with DDR4 and white PCB, what else? If you pay close attention now, you’ll see where the inspiration comes from (small spoiler: industrial style rocks). And before I forget: It can glow, and glow properly.
Next, it’s on to the working brain. This one comes from Intel, is called Core i7-12700K and it is great for gaming and should fit well for other applications as well.
The CPU also wants to be cooled properly, which is why the Heatkiller IV Pro from Watercool is used in the copper version.
Well, can you already guess where the journey is going, or not?
Our board in white also needs a proper, matching RAM. This time it comes from Teamgroup and to be precise, it is the XTREEM ARGB WHITE DDR4 with 5066 MHz. The whole thing now four times with 8 GB, so 32 GB in total. This was important to me here, because apart from the style, the clock should already be high enough to not fall behind the DDR5 RAM so much.
In addition, and to round off the overall picture, I have provided with a copper band for that certain touch.
So, now I still have to install a performant mass storage. I found this one on the M.2 shelf at ADATA and it’s civilly called Legend 840 1TB. With read/write speeds of up to 5,000/4,500 MB per second, that should be quite enough in any situation.
