Soundcheck
As announced earlier, here are the recordings of the individual keys, as always digitally turned up a bit.
Alternate left and right click:
Alternate side keys:
Scroll wheel, middle mouse button and DPI knob:
From the high-pitched mouse clicks to the almost dull mouse wheel, everything is here. Overall, however, all keys remain quite unobtrusive in terms of loudness.
Summary and conclusion
Steelseries does a lot right with the Prime Mouse variant tested here, but doesn’t really dare to do anything new. Ergonomically, the mouse lies well in the hand, but achieves this through a standard shape, as known from many other mice. Minimal illumination in the mouse wheel should make some people happy, others keep searching.
Especially in the beginning, I very often accidentally pressed the middle mouse button when scrolling, which offers hardly any resistance compared to other mice. You get used to it, but every now and then an unintentional grenade flew. What bothers me about the mouse’s “bare essentials” approach is the price. With the recently also tested Steelseries Rival 5, you even have an alternative in your own range, which offers significantly more side buttons at a slightly higher weight. For minimalists looking for a lightweight mouse, however, the Prime series at least offers a better sensor for the same money.
The test samples are purchased by ourselves or provided by the manufacturers without obligation. There is no influence on the tests and results. An expense allowance is only paid in exceptional cases, but is then shown and also has no influence on the test results.
