Practical test with three test persons
The practical test was again carried out with the three usual test persons in order to cover as broad a spectrum as possible and to collect many impressions. I based the criteria on Igor’s test reports, and because this was well received in the last chair reviews, I used it again here.
Summary Person 1 (1.59m/ 60kg)
“The upholstery is very comfortable and the mesh backrest makes it unexpectedly comfortable in the current temperatures. The lumbar support supports my hollow back perfectly and my feet come to the floor for once. For me so far the best chair to test sit.”
Summary Person 2 (1.83m/ 62kg)
“This chair reminds me a lot of the sinfully expensive ergonomic office chair at my workplace. The lumbar support could be a little less pronounced and the gas spring makes the chair feel a little “flimsy” due to the large amount of play, but overall I’m sure Sharkoon would have gotten away with a higher price tag – the chair is really good and for the money a true insider tip!”
Summary Person 3 (1.88m/ 121kg)
“The Office Pal C30 does a hell of a lot right and can be adapted very well to personal sitting habits thanks to the extensive adjustment options. The seat is generously cut and well padded. With my height and weight, I am at the load limit of the chair and this is particularly noticeable in the gas pressure spring. If this is “extended”, its thin piston has quite a bit of play, which you can also notice during movements. This is actually also my only real point of criticism, which is really amazing considering the price.”
Build quality
The build quality of the Office Pal C30 is thoroughly pleasing, apart from the somewhat small gas spring. The plastics are all neatly molded, the gaps of assembled parts are fine, and the threads for the screws are all cleanly cut. Even replacement screws were included, so other manufacturers can take a leaf out of the book. I only found one (pun indended!) “hook” and this one bit really nasty in the style of a real shark. The metallic logo on the back of the chair was not fully glued on my model and the sharp-edged thin sheet bored into my finger like a cutter knife. Who can not see blood: Don’t skip to the second picture.
Good thing for Sharkoon that we don’t live in the USA, otherwise I would have certainly been able to cash in properly 😉. All joking aside, a slightly more generous load of glue or a silicone film over the logo would prevent such accidents easily and cost-effectively, and I’m sure Sharkoon will rectify this quickly.
Interim conclusion
Overall, my two sitters unexpectedly liked the Office Pal C30, and the minor criticisms noted were practically immediately withdrawn when I told them the price of the chair. Personally, I would have liked it if you could also adjust the resistance or at least the distance of the lumbar support, because due to my relatively long body, the support sits quite low and presses a bit after a while.
