After we recently tested the Quersus ICOS, a chair explicitly marketed as an “office chair”, and found it to be good, SHARKOON now swoops in with the Office Pal C30 and shows us once again how price-performance works. You can read about the compromises that have to be made to reach the price of 229.90€ in the review.
229.90€ – just one third of the last tested Quersus ICOS chair – is what SHARKOON is asking for the new Office Pal C30. I was very curious to see what would await me in this test, because on the one hand, cost-cutting measures in seating furniture are often associated with fatal losses in seating quality, but on the other hand, it was SHARKOON who offered me the test sample. In the last tests, the guys have really shown that they understand the topic of price-performance like hardly any other manufacturer and from the then infamous poor quality long no traces are to be seen. Before I keep you in suspense any longer, let’s unpack the individual parts first.
Unboxing
The outer box is very simple. The relatively compact and not too heavy box shows a picture of the contents.
On the side we find technical specifications and all sorts of codes.
The packaging material is also designed with efficiency in mind. The small foam block at the very top is enough to prevent the contents from moving.
Very commendable: Overall, there was just this small amount of plastic waste in the box. That’s what some other manufacturers need for the headrest alone!
The nylon base may not make the highest quality impression at first glance, but we’ll get to that in a moment. The other components are wrapped in large textile bags, which I will definitely reuse for storing other things later. Here’s how the kit comes along:
The backrest is covered with mesh – so you won’t sweat too quickly, even in the current temperatures.
The height-adjustable headrest is an optional add-on, but it increases the comfort significantly.
The seat looks interesting, and the rocker mechanism is pre-assembled.
I found the controls particularly interesting, I certainly hadn’t seen that in this form before.
Let’s come back to the base. I already mentioned with the Recaro RAE that a nylon base is not necessarily a disadvantage, because nylon is a relatively elastic material, which breaks much less often than cast aluminum or hard plastic. For safety, SHARKOON has even incorporated a metal ring into the gas spring mount.
Speaking of the gas spring. The class 4 model used was manufactured by Samhungsa in China, meets DIN 4550 and even carries a seal from TÜV. At first glance, the spring does not differ from other models, but it does later in the practical test.
The armrests are also standard fare, as we see in 99% of all office and gaming chairs.
The plain casters are well rubberized and move quietly and with little resistance over the laminate. Screws and an assembly tool are also on board, the assembly instructions were not printed out and are only included as a QR code for viewing on the Internet. We’ll try it without instructions for now anyway.
