Gigabytes Flagship: Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11G in review

Similar to Asus' Strix, the Xtreme Editions are now on the market and if Asus uses ROG as a brand for gamers, then you have to follow up with Aorus at Gigabyte. Believe at least. In the meantime, there are also motherboards, notebooks, peripherals and... The board at a glance Aorus (Gigabyte) has adapted the board design a little to the new radiator philosophy and you can see that at first glance. Cleaned up is different, but a lot of things, like the coils, the SMD caps and the VRM, are here... Benchmarks in 2560 x 1440 pixels We have deliberately dispensed with Full HD (1920 x 1080p) as the card runs into the CPU limit even in the highest settings. Benchmarks in 3840 x 2160 pixels The Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11G is between 8 and more than 10 percent faster than a GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition or ge's game, depending on the game. Summary

What is that? Meet a few engineers, lots of copper, light metal, a screw fetishist, printed circuit board and a full box of components, as well as an accountant with the PR specialist in tow. After a long, heated discussion and many attempts, the result is finally on the table and leaves a lasting impression not only visually, but also pysially on the table. With a live weight of almost 1.5 kilos, the Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Gaming 11G is a real blissful sensation that keeps buyers and motherboards in their breath alike.

In terms of cooling, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this card, which is still quite rare. The board is also functionally layoutd and equipped. One can only criticize the software, whose OC-mode is a little too optimistic, because one does not raise the power target sufficiently enough. If you are unlucky with the chip quality (not to be influenced by the board partner), the OC tests should be carried out manually or immediately with suitable software such as the MSI Afterburner.

But then the mail can also go off smoothly, because the Power Target can be defined even far beyond the point, where morning and evening red fall at a time and the energy supplier starts to smile joyfully. Almost 350 watts, i.e. almost 100 watts more for a only marginally longer benchmark bar, are a matter of taste and view, because even with 250 watts of power consumption, this card does what it should: be faster, cooler and quieter than the reference. The theoretically possible 375 watts can probably only be achieved with a real hardmod on the board (PWM controller), because the OpenVR4+ registers can unfortunately not be overwritten by force by software.

But since Nvidia seems to be afraid of the durability of over-voltage chips and not everyone can throw this amount of money out the window painlessly, you should bring some respect for the product and accept the limits (teeth-crunching). Folk sport back and forth.

Conclusion

We give you a purchase tip for the mature and well-designed component cooling, as well as the very confident appearance in the delivery state. Overclocking results are random products that should not be included in the evaluation, as long as all the necessary basic requirements such as sufficient cooling including reserves, good power supply and a certain amount of free space with the Power Target supplied with us.

As always, the rest falls into the GPU lotto category, where we were finally able to triumph this time. It would also be unfair, because of this accidental stroke of luck, to sell this model immediately as the fastest card, because unfortunately there is no guarantee of repetition, which would be all too nice, but unfortunately it is not realistic.
