Conclusion Capsule Mini
“Sound” is always a subjective sensation, and this cannot be emphasized enough in connection with audio equipment. When recording sounds, however, it is quite easy to judge whether the sounds were really recorded as they were played/produced and how much hiss or noise can be heard in the recording.
The NZXT Capsule Mini offers a very good and above all “natural” voice quality for just under 70€. Apart from the relatively high background noise of the recording and the slight hissing of S sounds, the recording quality of this inexpensive microphone is quite respectable. In my personal (subjective) ranking, the Capsule Mini ranks slightly behind the Elgato Wave DX, which has the edge for me thanks to less noise and a slightly warmer and bassier sound. Considering the price, however, the voice quality of the Capsule Mini is quite convincing and should therefore definitely be considered if you are looking for a new USB microphone.
There is basically nothing to complain about in terms of workmanship. The device might not look particularly high-quality in the hands-on due to the extensive use of plastic, but this does not directly affect the function. The controls (volume control) even feel quite valuable due to the noticeable resistance, the good grid and the rubber coating. So, in my opinion, NZXT has saved in exactly the right places without negatively affecting the relevant elements and functions.
Conclusion Boom Arm Mini
What bothers me a bit about table microphones in general is the limited flexibility regarding positioning. You are practically forced to use a boom arm here, but then you still have to keep the sensitivity to vibrations of the tabletop in mind. The Boom Arm Mini from NZXT cut a good figure in the test and due to its compact dimensions, it was very easy to attach to my monitor (wall) mount, which completely eliminated the problem with vibrations. What I missed about the Boom Arm Mini, however, was the ball head for stepless alignment of the microphone. All in all, a solid Boom Arm of compact design, but without any real highlights. The mount is of course no comparison to the cheap Chinadingern, but for 20-30 € more there would be the more flexible heavy metal version with ball head, which makes the NZXT Boom Arm Mini for me personally actually only makes sense where really little space is available.
“The microphone and boom arm were provided by NZXT for this review. The only condition was compliance with the blocking period; no influence or remuneration took place.”
