Besides that, the CPU should also provide a second PCI 4.0 ×4 interface for additional SSDs.
At least that is something, even if it is a bit less than what AMD’s AM5 currently offers. Because there, the CPU has a PCIe 5.0 ×16 interface for connecting the GPU and then two more PCIe 5.0 ×4 interfaces for the SSD. The x16 GPU slot can also be split to AM5 with matching Ryzen 7000 processors in ×8/×4/×4. This socket is expected to remain so until at least 2026, including for the upcoming introduction of the Lunar Lake processor. According to reports, Arrow Lake-S will support a maximum core configuration of 8P 16E, while Meteor Lake-S’s 6P 16E configuration will no longer be pursued.
The Intel 800 series chipset includes the Z890, B860 and H810 models, with the H870 model being dropped. The W880 and Q870 chipsets are aimed at entry-level workstations and the business market, respectively, and both support Intel vPro technology. Arrow Lake-S will fully support DDR5 memory with a maximum limit of 48 GB per module and DDR5-6400 MT/s. In this regard, the Intel Z890 offers up to 60 HSIO channels, split between 26 for the CPU and 34 for the PCH. The B860 and H810 platforms, on the other hand, support up to 44 and 32 HSIO channels, respectively.
In addition, the Intel Z890 has a total of 48 PCIe channels. While the Z890, W880 and Q870 chipsets offer 8 DMI 4.0 channels, the B860 and H810 only offer 4.
The rescheduling in the desktop computer product range and the omission of Meteor Lake S could be due to the completion of the development work on the Intel 20A process, because Arrow Lake-S, which uses this 20A process, is expected to be released as early as 2024. This points to a strategic reorientation of Intel, where the company focuses on increased performance and the introduction of new technologies.
On the next page you can once again see the complete drawings of the ILM up to the backplate and the screws used. If you want to know more about the pin layout and other details, I refer you to the already published article:
