Subjective impression
The visual appearance and suitability for everyday use cannot be denied. I always had a good feeling when typing on the Steelseries keyboard. This was surprisingly pleasant and without any noticeable noise. The really cool performance that you can get out of such a small space makes some PCs (even with more current GPUs) look old and that with a total consumption of about 300 watts.
The OLED panel convinced me the most. Gaming on an OLED 15 inch 1440p panel with 188 ppi (razor sharp) and 240 Hz is simply awesome! I have not yet seen such a motion clarity. Thanks to the extremely fast response time of the pixels and an end-to-end latency that I have never measured before. How good it looks, I had to try to capture that for you. Filmed with the iPhone at 240 FPS: (on the left the original and on the right how it looks in something)
Too bad, it doesn’t come across quite as well. But I think you can follow me. Separation: Due to the materials used, the MSI Raider is not exactly a lightweight, but you can also render something very well on the go with the laptop – especially via the GPU. I would not do this via the CPU, it simply gets too warm. Maybe the Intel Core i9-12900HX should be manually trapped a bit (undervolting/power limit)?
My personal opinion of the MSI Raider? If I had the money, I would buy this exact one. Personally, I see such a purchase as a long-term investment. I am currently still using a MacBook Air from 2012 (runs like the first day) and a laptop with a GTX 1050. Ok, gambling is now slowly becoming difficult with it. But you see, if you don’t buy the newest hardware every year, you can also buy expensive once and have something from it for a very long time. Today even longer – thanks to upscaling!
Conclusion
For the current €4,256 (according to Geizhals), the customer gets – high-end in a portable format. Especially since the MSI Raider – with the Intel Core i9-12900 HX and NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti (mobile) is one of the fastest gaming laptops – you can currently buy. Yes, that’s a lot of money and probably only something for customers who have money a little looser in their pockets. So what for enthusiasts and those who always want to have the latest and greatest. A purchase recommendation for everyone? Or a price performance recommendation? That will be difficult or can not be done at this price. But, who really wants to get the best, and so much money left? The MSI Raider is – in this configuration tested by me – The Editor’s Chosice!
The MSI Raider, with its brilliant OLED display and the installed hardware, simply delivers the best that the mobile PC market currently has to offer. The workmanship is top. Even though the battery does not last very long and the volume is not to be sneezed at. But these drawbacks – the MSI Raider shares with its market companions in any case. Besides the mentioned drawbacks, there are only a few small things that MSI should improve in such an expensive laptop. All in all, it is a successful overall package at an unfortunately deterrent price.
The MSI Raider GE67 HX was provided to me by MSI for testing – without obligation and without conditions. There was no influence on the tests or the results. There was also no obligation to publish and no expense allowance was paid. The notebook (unfortunately) goes back to the manufacturer!
