Today, for the first time, an AiO water cooler from Lian Li finds its way onto my testbench, a really interesting model. By the way, Lian Li has also changed the OEM, so all-clear. Asetek instead of Apaltek. And so that it doesn’t get too exciting, we’ll start without further ado!
Packaging and scope of delivery
Dark printed and in a medium sized box the Galahead II comes along. I have the “Performance” edition here today, which has a higher density of fins in the radiator and is equipped with stronger fans.
The back already teases some of the features, but more on that on the next page.
Inside, everything is protected by a shell of sturdy cardboard, unfortunately there are a lot of plastic bags to go with it.
Besides the various parts for the supported sockets, there is also a small tube of thermal paste along with a spatula. And what to do with the stencils on the left side of the picture, I will show in a moment. The alternative attachments for the pump head I will show on the next page.
Assembly and installation
For the AM4 socket, the two existing brackets have to be pulled out of the pump block and replaced by the corresponding AMD version. And then it gets exciting, because you take one of the two self-adhesive templates, put it according to the planned orientation on the coldplate makes what partly in the factory otherwise take over machines:
I have not had that yet either! But this way you can be sure to have exactly the right amount of thermal paste at the right place. And if you want to renew the paste at some point or exchange it for another one, a second foil is included.
Specifications
As usual, here is an overview of the technical details. More information can be found on the manufacturer’s product page.
