Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti review: In between, above or next to it?

Anyone who thinks that Nvidia has already brought all feasible GPUs based on the Pascal architecture is of course hugely mistaken. Despite a fairly extensive selection of GeForce GTX 10 cards, the company is also the... In direct competition, the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti must of course compete primarily with the Radeon RX Vega 56. In addition, we are also 100% sure that the players also want to know how the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is against the faster ...

We can look at the relationship between temperature and fan speeds very nicely in direct comparison based on the respective curves. Since the card dispenses with semi-passive cooling, a minimum speed of the fan can always be found, but this does not disturb any further.

When evaluating the sound carpet, we are roughly where we were able to measure the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 FE at the time. The minimum deviations of the card tested today probably due to the high chip quality and the associated cooler operation over the entire runtime. The most significant and therefore also the most audible are the air flow of the card and the somewhat snarling drive of the radial fan, while the lower frequency bearing noises and the voltage converters are hardly or were not measurable at all.

Let's test how the board partner card behaves. The semi-passive fan configuration is very well implemented, because the switch-on pulse including hysteresis is ideally chosen. The switching of the already barely audible fans takes place only well above the 60°C and it can be seen clearly from the curve that the then available air flow is continuously increased, while the temperatures in turn remain surprisingly constant.

The analysis of the frequency spectrum and the final value results in a similarly low dB(A) value as for the larger sister, which this time is even slightly below this one. The spectrum can also convince, because the fans act so quietly that even the "electrical" noises in the upper frequency range, which were covered in the Founders Edition, can be detected. But this is hardly audible, even if it stands out in the spectrum. It's not the voltage converters that are loud, but the fans are just quiet.

Intermediate conclusion

Both cooling solutions have their raison d'etre, because the direct waste heat disposal to the environment in the DHE card also has its own charm. MSI has been able to improve the already good cooling, but this time it benefits significantly from the lower memory and GPU temperatures and the resulting (even) lower fan speeds.
