Construction diary
After I had photographed and presented the new parts, the tinkering mood grew immeasurably. Such an installation is still the best test for such a case review. The following components should therefore be used.
The CPU cooler used today is the Fera 5 from SilentiumPC, which Tim already presented in the article linked here a while ago. Because the system is supposed to do without RGB completely, I did not use the otherwise used Mugen 5 ARGB today. More details on the following page.
Because I have often experienced my blue miracle when plugging in the EPS-12V connector (CPU), I usually install the power supply first so that I can insert the said cable into the corresponding opening. Finally a modular power supply for case testing, so only the cables you really need!
As is almost common nowadays, the power supply is also attached to the Fractal North with an included frame. The power supply rests on rubberized feet at the back, so it doesn’t sag and doesn’t transmit as many vibrations to the case.
For easier assembly, I naturally pre-assembled the CPU, cooler, RAM and SSD outside the case again.
It just always makes me happy when manufacturers incorporate this little detail. So simple and it makes your life so much easier. The center spacer is equipped with a small spike as a centering device, which holds the motherboard in place even without screwing it in, which makes mounting much more convenient.
Thus, the assembled board is of course installed in no time at all.
I could have done without threading the EPS-12V connector beforehand, since some space was left above the board for optional case fans and they are not present. In addition, the compact CPU cooler also leaves enough room for movement to plug in the CPU power supply.
The front I/O was also quickly connected. Since the North has neither an HDD LED nor a reset button, there were actually only four connectors to connect here – unfortunately, the used board does not have a USB-C header.
The rubberized cable passages are generously designed so that even the thickest part of the 24-pin cable can easily find room.
The cable routing is well thought out and offers enough space. Especially in combination with a fully modular power supply, only two additional cable ties were needed besides the pre-mounted Velcro fasteners to realize a neat cabling. So completely without RGB, that already saves work.
With the GPU installed and a view of the Intake fans, the system is also ready. So shut up.Front on it.And ready.
