Upgrades for the test system
Although this article is of course primarily about the Fractal Case in question, I have to include a small mention on this page. In the meantime, I was able to make some upgrades for the case test system. Therefore, the reference to the new components from Sharkoon and HP is still here.
New power supply
The old Antec power supply bothered me the most. Although it is now well over 10 years old, it actually still works perfectly, but it is simply no longer up to date and, above all, a fully modular power supply is virtually mandatory for case tests. Especially in smaller cases, it is sometimes practically impossible to manage the whole cable tangle of a non-modular power supply cleanly. Today and in the future I use a 650W power supply from the Silent Storm series. This is the 80+ Gold certified Cool Zero model, which with decent caps, a customizable 135mm fan and generally decent build quality then makes for an optimal partner for this application.
New hard disk
Because the previously used Sandisk SSD from private stock only holds 512GB and isn’t particularly fast either (S-ATA), I’m switching to a 1TB EX900 Pro M.2 SSD from HP. In times where games sometimes cost 100GB and more, a 512GB drive quickly reaches its capacity limit. Thanks to the much faster EX900 Pro, new games can also be installed in the future without having to uninstall one every time. With fast transfer rates of up to 2250 MB/s, the boot and load times of the test system are naturally also shortened.
