Battery and runtime
The 10800 mAh are not new, but still sufficient for several days, depending on what you do with it. In normal use (phone calls, a bit of surfing, emails, messenger/chats), you can easily get by for 4 days. If you gamble more often or consume extensive YouTube, then maybe two. The fact that charging is finally faster is praiseworthy, especially since the 66-watt charger also manages it completely in just under 2 hours. Otherwise, if the smartphone was not completely empty, you can also get it back to the maximum charge state in less than an hour. Since it is never 100% in reality for technical reasons (although displayed), a full 10500 mAh should still be available, which is also more than sufficient.
Summary and conclusion
Now we come to the question of price, which can never really be answered stably with such Chinese gadgets. You can get the Doogee V30 for around 350 Euros via AliExpress, but you always have to include the import sales tax and the problems in case of damage or warranty claims. So here you have to be a bit brave or indifferent about potential failures. If you buy it via platforms like eBay or Amazon, the prices differ between 440 and 560 Euros, depending. You can be quite lucky and find a special offer.
However, it would also be wrong to put the price against a “normal” mid-range smartphone now, because these parts serve a completely different target group. For a decent outdoor rugged phone, the performance is still commensurate with the price when you look at the rest of the price gouging in the current market. Someone who only uses something like this normally without depending on the unbreakable factor will not buy the Doogee V30 anyway, but the target group might.
The fact is that the 5G reception in the “best network” (i.e. Telekom) was more constant and much freer of dropouts during a train ride from Chemnitz to Hamburg than with my iPhone 13 Max Pro. Most of the time I had one bar more and the throughput was also a tad better. But as an iPhone user, you are almost used to the fact that the others have an advantage. You are just as well off with WiFi 6, which is a real benefit in the end when you are on the suitable WLAN. Both in the network with the Fritz!Box or an Aruba access point, everything went smoothly, from logging in to surfing and downloading.
The battery runtime is downright terrific and you almost forget about the daily, stressed look at the battery indicator. Battery empty? Never heard of… Down it has also already plopped several times, for this I have my kids and their much too small pockets in the jacket. Here, the obligatory belt or hip bag is recommended. This monster is certainly heavy. But also extremely durable. The installed Android has been customized a bit, but is still almost original. Bloatware? None found.
The voice quality is okay, but the speakers are a bit tinny at higher volumes. But they are at least extremely loud, regardless of whether you need it now. So I don’t. But as alarm clocks, they are not to be ignored. Making calls, including network discovery and stability, works well and also above average when I think of my two iPhones. Only my Watch with eSIM can keep up. Speaking of the eSIM: the possibility to use 4 eSIM cards and a memory card at the same time in addition to the normal SIM is a kind of unique selling point and almost a must for frequent travelers.
The cameras are rather average, but quite usable. NightVision works amazingly well and the videos also succeed up to 4K. Only the overzealous sharpener and a slight overexposure tarnish the rather positive overall picture. You will not find a powerful zoom or a real macro. But it’s not a photo phone, after all. And what else? You can definitely do that if you belong to the target group and have smart pockets. I think it’s pretty good.
