Deepcool Matrexx 55 in review – we build a chic Ryzen PC | igorsLAB

Assembly and Hands-On

So, now it gets serious and I complete the motherboard with the M.2-SSD, the Ryzen 2700 and the Fryzen as air cooler. With its asymmetrical design and 6 curved heatpipes, it is easy to position and the memory can also be as high as it would like. The assembly kit is good in terms of handling and also ensures the right contact pressure. The cooling performance fits, even in the closed housing.

When the motherboard is installed in the housing, it doesn't even get very tight, but if it does, then maximum slim radiators or an all-in-one water cooling fit in, if you are on water cooling. In the sum of fans and radiators, this becomes very scarce and also obscures the cable entry openings. So you really would have to connect everything, EPS included and then use the radiator with the pre-assembled fans. The fans are otherwise not screwed cleanly, as e.g. heatsink of VRM cooling.

What to forget? Ooops, yes, because of course we also need an electricity supplier. The fully modular Gamerstorm DQ 650-M from the shelf is a 650 watt power supply with 80+ Gold label, after all. My friend Aris von Cybenetics tested it and didn't even think it was bad. At the moment, it would have to be replaced by a cheap equivalent in Germany, but there is certainly something else that comes to mind. But I want to test the installation and not the power supply.

And that's exactly what we're going to pack into the case after the motherboard, so that the center of gravity is right again. By the way, we also see very nicely on the picture below that the 16.5 cm high cooler still fits loosely into the case, there would have been even some reserve for more, which is not self-evident in this price situation. The manual writes 16.8 cm, I measure just over 17 cm.  So it also depends on the motherboard and its socket.

We also see on the next picture that even the rather long X470 Gaming M7 AC still fits in well, but it gets a bit short. Unfortunately, there is no room to hide the cables between the back wall and the power supply. Here the low height of only 44 cm strikes mercilessly. From mini-ITX to EATX, everything is possible, but you shouldn't overdo it either. Otherwise, after installation, you have knots in the finders.

The graphics card fits in, even if you still use internal drives. Without all fittings, maps with a length of up to 37 cm would be possible, which is probably of a hypothetical nature. Wrong target group, because here we are still in the lower middle class – with a clear tendency towards the budget.

Finished. With some skills and not too much klimbim, the installation was done in less than an hour. There were no problems, nor were there any obstacles. And I haven't even found any real mistakes that I usually attract so magnetically. That, too, is a statement that can be left to stand.

Summary and conclusion

If, like me, you take the cheaper, only about 45 to 50 Euro expensive version of the Matrexx 55, you still get a very handsome case with a simple and secondless design, good cooling performance and two 4 mm glass inserts. On the one hand, one gets a very handsome front and on the other hand, the large side part also allows a deeper insight down to the deep abyss of the hardware. This is a matter of taste, but thanks to the glass part placed on the side, it creates a little more space inside.

You also have the back to store all the cables cleanly, which is by no means a given. The surcharge of only 15 to 20 euros for three built-in RGB fans would also be painful, as the identical bundle with the three CF120s purchased individually costs more than 40 euros. So you will have to decide immediately where the journey should go. Full beach promenade with fairy lights or war darkening for light shyness. you can choose it.

The processing quality is above average for a under-50-euro housing. Sharp edges or wabling sheet metal parts are not found, but you get an almost optimally designed case, in which the last millimeter was still purposefully planned. For this, there is the price/performance recommendation and the good advice to consider the savings potential for a blackout case without RGB. All features, connections and installation options are available. The price is almost a temptation.
