Practical test and sound check
At this point, I wasn’t expecting any big surprises. The Cherry MX Speed Silver switches are well known.
The MX Speed Silver have a forward travel of 1.2mm and an actuation force of 45cN. Alternatively, the K70 PRO Mini is also available with the well-known MX Red switches, which have the same features except for the further forward travel and total travel
I already got to know and love the feel of the new PBT keycaps in previous reviews:
The red Cherry MX still represent the optimal switches for gaming for me. I had now for comparison a while the MX Speed from the K70 PRO MINI in use and had with which so my problems. The quick release of the MX Speed has often led to “missteps” in games and the short stroke feels a bit uncomfortable when typing. I prefer the red Cherry, although I still prefer the blue tactile switch for typing.
Out of interest, I had also connected the K70 PRO MINI via Bluetooth to my Android smartphone and my Samsung Smart TV. Both worked without any problems and are even quite comfortable thanks to the different connection profiles (SLIPSTREAM + 3 Bluetooth devices). Cool: On the smartphone, it was even possible to use the cursor function, which simulates a mouse.
The battery runtime was acceptable at maximum brightness (Rainbow) for three full days of home office including an evening gaming session. Without illumination, the runtime is supposed to be around 200 hours, which I unfortunately could not check within the scope of this review.
Soundcheck
Again, I took the usual pictures of the K70 PRO MINI, because they say more than 1000 words. A common feature that I had noticed immediately with all Corsair keyboards before: all Corsair keyboards sound a bit “springy”, so you can hear the spring of the switches reverberate, which is probably largely simply due to the switches installed. The K70 PRO MINI now has this under control a bit better, because you can only hear the spring clearly on the larger keys.
Normal writing:
5 x spacebar, 5 x backspace and 5 x enter
Pressing the ESC key rapidly
