With today’s article, I ventured into a segment of the keyboard market that I’ve tended to avoid. Since I’ve always had a bit of a hard time with the lack of a numpad on many notebooks and TKL keyboards, the jump from fullsize to a 60% layout is a big one. In the following review, you can find out how the tiny device could do in the test:
Packaging and scope of delivery
Even the small cardboard box gives an indication of the size of the keyboard, because even that is already really handy. By the way, the slight money stitch is not a white balance issue, but the actual color of the front and back. The purple accents tie it all back to Cooler Master, but still an odd color choice. In addition to the obligatory large product image on the front, there’s a second one on the back, along with multilingual feature texts.
Inside there is the first surprise in the form of a black fabric bag, in which the keyboard is placed. Included, but in a separate box, are USB Type-C cables and a keycap pully. Two manuals for wired and Bluetooth operation are also included.
By the way, the golden-yellow border around the keyboard is protective foil on the milled-off corners.
The bag unfortunately gets fluffy quickly due to the color and texture, but is otherwise well suited for transporting the keyboard. You can also get a flat mouse and a few cables in there without any problems.
Optics and haptics
Due to the layout and size of the SK622, there is no room for design elements or bells and whistles, the top is mostly covered by the keycaps. The tight, multiple labeling of the keys is already noticeable here, more on that later.
The underside is kept very simple, besides the Cooler Master logo and serial number sticker there are only two small rubber pads and the feet for angling. They are made of hard rubber and protrude slightly from the case even when folded in order to prevent slipping.
The two feet have no intermediate step, so angling is only possible in two stages. On the left side we also see the switch for Bluetooth operation.
Apart from that, the USB Type-C port for wired operation and charging the 4000mAh battery is still on the top.
Although the weight rating of only 446g seems very light compared to other keyboards, the small size makes up for it. The keyboard feels high-quality and well-made, there are no sharp edges or rattling plastic.
