Cooling GPUs Hardware Practice Reviews Watercooling

Alphacool Ice Block GPX-N Plexi Light M02 for the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 in 380-Watt Hardness Test | igorsLAB

Test run and temperatures

I reconnect the graphics card directly to the chiller, increase the power target to the maximum 380 watts, the core clock by 200 MHz and the voltage to the adjustable maximum. Then I start Witcher 3 on maximum details at 3840 x 2160 pixels (Ultra HD).

The control measurement showed approx. 378 to 379 watts over the measured 30 minutes for the graphics card alone, the water temperature was as always constant 20°C and the room temperature was 22°C. This gives us the best conditions for later comparisons with other products.

At a GPU temperature of an average of 38 to 40°C, I register a plentiful 38°C under the socket on the back of the board. That's rather average. Depending on the positioning, the memory modules are warm edging between 52°C and 50°C, which is not enough for the top spot or the midfield, but still remains cool enough. The voltage converters get a maximum of 57°C warm, which is not a concern, but is also not really great. This is also much cooler for the competitors.

I have summarized the final charts in a gallery and I like to refer again to my YouTube video:

Summary and conclusion

The universal cooler tested today for all models of the RTX Founders Edition of Nvidia from the GeForce RTX 2070 upwards was only partially convincing. The cooling capacity is still sufficient, I will put that in the first place. But it is not enough to top the ranks. It can be used universally and this also helps the manufacturer to avoid a certain fragmentation of the products. But it is a universal solution with maximum compatibility and not a specialist, which you will notice in the overall performance.

Everything stays cool enough, but in the fight for the highest boost step it gets a little tight, because some areas become significantly warmer than the competitors. But at least all this is still in the deep green, harmless area. Only the ambitious enthusiast will rather not find what he is looking for in the hunt for the last degree to be saved. This is cooling for Otto normal water coolers, no more, but no less.

The thrift foxes will be happy, because you get the complete cooler including backplate already from approx. 127 euros and doesn't have to wait long weeks for it. But you just have to live with the smaller restrictions, especially since the processing can not always convince 100%. Therefore, there is no award, but the verbal assessment that the cooler is usable. Because even compromises can come along charmingly – and if it's the price. It fits.
