Mountain Makalu 67 Review – The newcomer among the lightweights with a very good sensor

Haptics

The Makalu 67 scores well in terms of feel, and its low weight of just 67 grams is not only the name giver, but also the basis for a very pleasant handling. Together with the weight, the 100 percent PFTE feet ensure that both fast patches and slow movements feel extremely precise. In addition, the cable is super light, so I never noticed it negatively during my testing period. I would simply say that it’s as good as most cables on similar lightweight mice like the MM710 or Model O.

Now for the shape, the Makalu 67 is a relatively large mouse, especially compared to my other lightweight rodent, the Cooler Master MM710. But I would not say that it is too big, on the contrary Mountain seems to have found the perfect size here. The shape reminds me a lot of a Zowie FK2 as it has a similar back shape, I personally like the shape very much, the mouse feels great in the hand and the matt finish feels good and always provides enough grip. Even after hours of use at a stretch, this shape remains pleasant and I can report no joint pain or similar.

There is only one thing that I personally miss a little bit, and that is finger grooves on the two mouse buttons. These would help keep my fingers in place. It doesn’t bother me that they are missing, but for me the Makalu would have been a perfectly shaped mouse with light depressions in the keys. Nevertheless, it is clearly one of the most ergonomic mice I have ever used.

Build quality

The quality of the mouse probably surprised me the most, especially since Mountain, at least to my knowledge, has no experience in the design and manufacture of such products, and interestingly enough, I found absolutely no flaws in the quality. The mouse feels extremely solid, nothing wobbles or rattles. Even the surfaces and processing of the materials look above average. The only thing I wanted to mention here was anticipated by my contact at Mountain, because the LEDs in the light strip do not illuminate the light strip evenly, but shine a little too clearly through the material. But as I was assured this will be improved until the final version of the mouse.
