Wavemaster Fusion Subwoofer in Test – Lots of Ballet for Below in The Smallest Space

Measurements

Measuring subwoofers is a bit difficult, because it doesn't say anything about how such a part performs at the individual installation location. But certain clues can then be found in advance. The manufacturer's indication of 30 Hz as the lower limit is really honest, because if you take the 100 Hz mark as a reference and zero point, then it is only approx.  2.4 dB Waste in the level. at approx. 28 Hz it is then approx. -5 dB, which can already be seen very clearly.

There is almost nothing left of it, logically. For such a small cube with its very restrained 26 cm edge length, however, this result is not even bad. On the contrary. Also the lift by the two passive radiators is rather broadband and as an advantage of this construction one additionally has the disappearing air noise from the bass reflex tube.

Only that certain resonation is a point that could disturb audiophiles. However, this is a general disadvantage of all types of bass reflex systems and is not limited to passive membranes. But you can also dampen things down a little bit. Could, but then unfortunately some of the punch is lost.

Let's consider a near-field measurement of the passive membrane and note with peace of mind that the system is almost free of any resonances. Sure, the focus is on the overall solution (see above) between approx. 35 and 55 Hz, but this focus was chosen quite cleverly. The Big Bass Drum gets under its kick still a fat bass scaffold down and every lower tuned bass guitar never runs the risk of shipping in plucked nothingness.

The passive support is therefore rather a rather broadband story on the side, but in the above-mentioned area already pushes additionally on the tube, so that exactly the curve is created, which one can also see at the beginning. Writing in the 100-watt range of level-proof can only be used for rooms up to approx. 20m2 without aftertaste. But then the performance is sufficient. It's not enough for the big cinema, but you don't want that at all.

Sound Check

The better the stereo speakers, the nicer and more relaxed you can integrate and tune a subwoofer. So not as a watt-strong afterburner for the acoustic cardboard tableware, but only as a fragrant body lotion for below. The Wavemaster Fusion creates new horizons for normal compact loudspeakers and also creates a view beyond the plate floor. Properly tuned and phased "ordered", the subwoofer can create a very neutral and almost crisp spectrum downwards.

Whether classical or normal Schrammeldisko, R'n'B or Jazz – you can hear everything a nuance richer and fuller, without immediately taking the final blow into the stomach pit. Of course, this does not mean the fat punch, but you don't want that at all, if you think about a bass supplement (not-setter) for the Ü15 party. Klaus-Kevin may forgive me, but this time he is NOT the target group. I have already written the rest during the measurements.

But you have to give yourself time and effort to adjust the subwoofer really clean. Then, but only then, everything sounds like a single piece. The contraoctave is lightning-clean in the business, only the subcontraoctave then weakens a little by the bottom.

Conclusion and summary

Let's leave the street price of approx. 250 Euros (although the EIA is still above 300 Euro), then the Wavemaster Fusion is a small, tasty and light-airy cream tart, but not a heavyweight bass buttercream cake. The part is cuddly, space-saving and plentifully honest, even if for the very big fundamental appearance volume and electric schmackes are missing. It is almost a space wonder, which also hardly gives up any puzzles even at the place of assembly.

That's why there's a buying tip, because I've heard a lot of lusty in direct comparison and also visually. Of course, you can get subwoofers under 200 euros that you can live with, but you always have to make some compromise. Either the sound is right, but the foiling and finish are gentle food, or a chic part comes as an acoustic blender. Or both. There is misery in all shades, not here.

From this point of view, the street price fits again, because above all the interaction with the Wavemaster Two Pro or Neo makes you really happy. You really don't have to deal with such a cheap tycoon cube from the media market, not even your unloved neighbours. But it would also be much more expensive and better. This should also be taken into account
