To give our readers some distraction in these turbulent days, we have combined a review with a small self-test. What can a console headset do on a PC? Do console gamers have to settle for inferior equipment? We’re getting to the bottom of it!
Admittedly, the introduction is somewhat luridly worded, but in times of this overshadowing event, even the tech press has a pretty hard time. Catching readers’ attention and delivering a good article when you always have other things on your mind has presented me with an unexpected challenge. In order to still deliver an article of the usual quality and scope, I put the emotions aside and concentrate on the technical details and the impressions gained.
Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2
As the successor to the best-selling wireless headset for the Xbox One and Series X, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 takes on a tough legacy. Since the predecessor was so successful, they actually only made improvements in the details, for example, by doubling the battery life and now integrating the foldable microphone directly into the earphone’s casing.
In general, the black and silver Gen 2 version looks much more grown-up and not as playful as the predecessor with the typical Xbox green tint. Before we get to the technical details, there is of course the obligatory unboxing.
Unboxing
The outer box is in the typical Xbox design. Matt light gray with green applications meet the ravages of time, only a few technical details are listed. Apparently you don’t think the consoleros are as nerds as the PCers.
When you open the box, the device immediately smiles at you. ZERO plastic in the packaging, I find very commendable.
Besides the headset, only a charging cable and a small box with quick start guide and a sticker are in the box.
The metal-reinforced headband is covered with a kind of soft lacquer and has the Turtle Beach logo embossed on it.
From the bottom it is sufficiently soft padded. The cover is made of the same material as the ear pads and makes a robust impression.
All controls and the charging port are found on the left earpiece. Convenient: If you are connected to the Xbox or the Xbox Wireless Adapter and still connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth at the same time, you can adjust the volume of the game/movie/music and the chat/phone call separately.
The foldable microphone that can be retracted into the casing is also located on the left side.
The opening for the ears seems quite small at first glance, but is normal sized with a little over 4cm width and about 6cm height. Inside, the padding is covered only with a thin and very soft fabric that it should not press uncomfortably or even hurt even on larger ears.
I include more details on the adjustment mechanisms, etc., on page three, where the headset is also disassembled and the innards evaluated.
