Sharkhan Extreme XTC-4 in test – Korean thermal paste in first test

First of all, a warning to all those who think that I have committed myself again. But: Sharkhan is not Sharkoon, but a brand of Chenglin Inc. from South Korea. Don't you know? Don't worry, because the company has only been around since 2017. The selection of products is also very manageable, but with the Sharkhan Extreme XTC-4 you would like to enter the German market in the near future. A good reason to take a closer look.

Usability? Yes, but…

I already wrote that the Sharkhan Extreme XTC-4 is a rather viscous paste. That's why it can only be applied optimally with a spatula. Attempts with smaller coolers like the Corsair H80i (with its own backplate) and a blob go – somehow. But the distribution is not perfect, especially since I don't like the contact pressure. Here it makes a very big difference whether a heatspreader of the CPU is rather concave or convex. It is better to exclude this risk.

Not extra heated, the paste (with some skills) can also be processed at room temperature, whereby one runs the risk of obtaining either an overly thick but homogeneous layer or a sympatheticth layer, which, however, can be easily reworked again during reworking. can tear up. So you really should clean the heatspreader very carefully and maybe even a little roughating at the corners and edges. Sand.

Summary and conclusion

The Sharkhan Extreme XTC-4 is not a bad paste, but it is also not a secret flyer. It is a solid OEM number of a company that is new to the market and would like to open up to Europe. This, in turn, would certainly only be about an extremely good price, because comparable performing pastes are available at a hem. The manufacturer is therefore well advised to look for a suitable distributor and to approach the market from below. Getting into high prices would definitely go wrong.

What I personally lack is a spatula for applying this very viscous paste. Although this consistency offers undeniable advantages, it is not easy for beginners to master. Would the paste be offered much more cheaply than, for example, the already not too high-priced Gelid GC Extreme, then it would definitely be worth a second test in terms of low temperatures and long-term durability. Otherwise, it is unfortunately only paste among many same.

But I have at least one more entry in our thermal paste.charts. And who knows, maybe it even works with the distributor. I wouldn't mind.
