Remnant 2 is another Souls game, and it actually does everything right that Souls games do well. It’s challenging, rewarding, and offers a variety of worlds to explore and battles to fight. But it’s also a game that will frustrate you from time to time. You’ll die, and die again, and die again. But when you finally manage to overcome the challenges, you’ll also experience a sense of satisfaction that you can find in few other games. Remnant 2 is a Souls-like action role-playing game developed by Gunfire Games and published by Perfect World Entertainment. The game was released in August 2023 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The game is divided into five biomes, each offering their own unique enemies, bosses, and puzzles. The biomes are all very detailed and huge in places, and it’s fun to explore them at first. However, once you get stuck, the paths are too long in places and it drags on forever. The combat system in Remnant 2, on the other hand, is pleasantly fast and fluid. There are a variety of weapons and abilities to choose from, and it’s even possible to develop a variety of play styles. The fights are challenging, not always fair, but it’s fun to develop new strategies to defeat the bosses. Which you don’t always have to do. But such victories are always practical for your own character development.
The thin plot is quickly explained: In Remnant 2, players take control of a survivor who tries to save the world from an alien threat. So short, so unexciting. But it’s still just enough to lead you through the game in a reasonably plausible way. On the plus side, Remnant 2 stands out for its challenging combat system, varied environments, and in-depth character development. The game also features a multiplayer mode where up to three players can work together to save the world. The characters are all interesting and well-written, and it’s fun to learn their stories. Something, after all.
What I’ve liked so far:
- The combat system in Remnant 2 is fast, fluid, and challenging. Players must choose their enemies carefully and use their abilities strategically to win.
- Remnant 2 features a variety of environments, including forests, ruins, caves, and cities. Each environment offers its own unique challenges and enemies.
- Players can customize their character to suit their own play style. There are a variety of classes, abilities and weapons to choose from.
- Multiplayer: Remnant 2 features a multiplayer mode where up to three players can work together to save the world.
- The hardware requirements for Remnant 2 are relatively low.
- Remnant 2 also supports ray tracing, but this can cause a significant performance drop. DLSS is actually mandatory if you want to play smoothly on UHD
What I didn’t like so much:
- The story is thin and predictable.
- The game can get too repetitive if you play through it several times or stay in one biome for too long.
- Some of the bosses are too unfair.
Summary and first conclusion
Overall, Remnant 2 is a great game for fans of the Souls genre. The game is challenging, rewarding, and offers a variety of content. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new challenge. So if you’re willing to take on such a challenge and sink enough time into it, then I definitely recommend Remnant 2. But if, on the other hand, you’re just looking for a game that will comfortably butter your bread, then you might want to look elsewhere. Because it will frustrate you so much that you’ll want to throw it in the corner. But you won’t, because you know you’ll play it again. And again. And again. Until you finally beat it and the bosses. So be warned: you will hate it and love it.
Due to lack of valuable time, I’ve only reached the third biome so far, but what the heck. Someday I’m sure the next hour will be found. If you want to see more, just browse through the picture gallery for a while. Have fun with it!
